A Legacy of Resilience: A Message from the Founder

The story of Las Alondras began with my grandmother. At just four years old, she lost her mother during the birth of her youngest sister. Despite the medical warning that another pregnancy could be fatal, her father was unaware or chose not to heed it. The result was a profound shift in her young life, a forced confrontation with trauma and instability that no child should endure. Soon after, her father remarried, and her stepmother’s cruelty became a daily reality. My grandmother was subjected to treatment that denied her the most basic comforts. She was made to sleep on a cold dirt floor without any blanket and endured neglect and isolation.

At just 13, she was married to a 30-year-old man who, tragically, became another source of pain rather than refuge. This marriage was arranged and marked by both emotional and physical abuse. She had no choice in her own future, her own life, or even in becoming a mother. She bore two children under circumstances that could only be described as coercive, with no autonomy or dignity. Her reality was shaped by oppression, yet her spirit remained unbroken.

By age 21, she found the courage to escape this life. She endured an attack that nearly killed her. Even from a hospital bed, she chose not to return to a life of suffering. Her brother intervened, providing the support she desperately needed at a time when such actions were rare and dangerous. Although she found safety, society offered her little empathy. As a young woman, with two children who had left her husband, she was ostracized by both family members and her community. The burden of societal judgment weighed heavily on her, but she persevered nonetheless. Despite many barriers, she forged a path forward on her own terms. Working as a server at a social club, she worked tirelessly to support her family and rebuild her life. It was here that she met my grandfather—a man who would finally see her strength and dignity and who would respect her in a way no one had before.

Through her journey, my grandmother taught me that strength is not just about surviving hardship, but about finding the courage to overcome it, even when society tries to hold you back. Her story is one of resilience, and it fuels my commitment to building a community where women’s voices, lives, and dreams are valued and supported. This nonprofit is not just about empowerment; it’s about creating a space where women can find the support and community that they deserve, free from judgment or limitation.

My grandmother’s life stands as a reminder that every woman deserves respect, freedom, and the chance to build her own life. Through this organization, I honor her legacy and we will provide women around the world with the support they need to thrive and to find the courage to create their own paths, just as she did. Las Alondras Organization and its network of partners will empower, encourage, and uplift women with every available resource and we are committed to always leading with the heart in our mission to achieve these goals.
